Art and culture hand in hand from 20 to 25 April in the enchanting surroundings of Villa Fiorentino, with the first edition of the Antiques Exhibition. Organised by the commendable Sorrento “Antiques Association” with the support of Campania Regional Government, Naples Provincial Government, Sorrento Town Council and the prestigious “Sorrento Foundation,” the exhibition, of national importance, aims to create an exclusive and unique event to promote and enhance the culture and historical roots of the past and preserve them in memory. There will be thirty famous exhibitors from most Italian regions and foreign countries, including Trionfante of Palermo, Andolfi from Salerno, the Neapolitan Serao and the Belgian Jean Marie Hubert, to name just a few, showing medium/high quality antiques with products guaranteed original and authentic. On display will be furnishings, ornaments and accessories of the past, bronzes, sculptures, and 19th century paintings. It represents a return to the ancient, the classic, and to beauty; revisiting the past with a special look at art, culture and craftsmanship which has almost disappeared but has been passed down and preserved by experts and avid collectors. “One of the goals of the ‘Antiques in Villa Fiorentino’ exhibition,” said the president of the organizing body, Andrea Malvone, “is to uphold the image of antiques as a pure and genuine art form, promoting and enhancing the culture of the past that we have all inherited.” The vice president Silvia d’Auria added, “The passion for antiquity and a taste for items that evoke life styles and diverse artistic expression have driven our efforts in organizing this fundamentally important event in terms of culture and quality tourism.” The exhibition will be inaugurated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday 20 April by the Mayor of Sorrento, Giuseppe Cuomo, and will remain open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., by no mere chance coinciding with Easter celebrations throughout the Sorrento coast and in particular the rites of Holy Week, a tangible expression of the religious beliefs of the local population.
