Five concerts given by artists of international fame, in the beautiful scenery of the Cloister of St. Francesco, always place deputy to classical music in Sorrento and destination of obligation to Italian and foreign tourists. The prestigious review “Classical Sorrento”, organised by the City of Sorrento, in the person of Mayor Marco Fiorentino, and the Sorrento Concerts Society, merges the Cloister of architectural harmony with those of great music and again testifies to the commitment and sensitivity of City Sorrento to the values of culture, art and for major events that help to improve the reputation of Sorrento in the world. The art director of season is M° Paolo Scibilia, who with exquisite sensitivity and tenacity promotes from 20 years in Sorrento Peninsula, prestigious events of classic music. Sorrento Classic begins on August 26 with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Lugansk, directed by Francesco Ledda. Below: August 27, the violinist Anna Tifu, (the first prize in the competition “G. Enescu” 2008 and pupil of the famous Salvatore Accardo); September 5, the soprano Maria Dragoni (first prize “Maria Callas”), October 1, the Quartet Kodaly (one of the best quartets in the world and winner of the “London Prize” for the best CD of chamber music). The main event is on September 24: actor Aldo Ciccolini, undisputed legend of international pianism and shining example of artistic longevity, which, at the height of his career of 80 years, go back to Sorrento ( after 20 years of absence), for a recital in memory of Dr. Enrico Fregola, particularly beloved figure from our city, for its quality of doctor-surgeon, supporter of music and philanthropist of young talent. The proceeds of this evening is aimed at a scholarship in the field of music and medicine. The concerts start at 21.15 with free admission, except in the event of September 24.
